Get Involved

Volunteers are an integral part of Habitat. Each year, around 250 volunteers give their time and expertise through on-site construction days and committee contributions. On any given build day, local businesses, associations, schools and houses of worship work alongside individual volunteers and future homeowners to help HFHWC construct our current projects.

How Can I Get Involved?
You don’t need to be an expert in construction or a committee subject area to help out. There are many tasks that require only a willingness to learn and work with others. However, you must be at least 16 years old to work on the construction sites and volunteers under the age of eighteen must be accompanied by an adult. Please contact Dawn the volunteer coordinator for more information.

Additional opportunities exist to volunteer at the HomeStore in downtown Waukesha. Learn more!

PLEASE remember that the construction environment can be fickle and sometimes there are logistical challenges out of HFHWC control. These can cause delays and cancellations; please try to be flexible when scheduling a group or an individual workday. Additionally, in an effort to provide opportunities for everyone, multiple workdays may NOT be available.

Rules for Group Volunteer Participation

  1. Choose a team Group Build Safety Captain to start the organization process. The Captain is responsible for organizing the day, becoming familiar with the Safety Checklist, and helping to ensure that volunteers have a safe work environment in which to work. The Group Build Safety Captain can always designate someone else to perform these tasks as well; just please make sure that they are fulfilled.
  2. Recruit between 5 and 12 people to be on your team. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and there must be one adult for every two 16-17 year-olds in a group. Team members can be friends, coworkers, relatives, or people from your church or any other organization. Please Note: Unfortunately, we are unable to accept groups of more than 12 people. If your group exceeds 12 people you may consider scheduling an additional group slot or dividing the workday into two shifts.

Individual Volunteers
Thank you for considering a contribution of your time and efforts to HFHWC. There are many ways for individuals to contribute - from helping us in our Menomonee Falls office or joining a committee of interest to spending a day with us on a building site or helping us with family training classes. Any way you can help Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County is appreciated.
